Agricultural village located 1 mile inland from Sheringham. Historically, the parish of Sheringham was actually two villages: Upper Sheringham, a farming community, and Lower Sheringham, a farming and fishing community. Upper Sheringham, is referred to in the Domesday Book and dates from Roman times. Lower Sheringham is now the seaside town of Sheringham. Upper Sheringham was the location of the Sheringham workhouse.
Things to do
Sheringham Park, previously owned by the Upcher family, is now owned by the National Trust. The park features a garden designed by Humphry Repton, rhododendron walk, woodlands and towers which offer views of the coast.
Legend
A mermaid once arrived at the door of All Saints’ Church but was denied entry. However she managed to sneak into the church and a bench-end, with a mermaid carved into it, commemorates the occasion.

Accommodation ratings
The English Tourism Council, RAC and AA ratings mean that you know
that the accommodation has been thoroughly checked and rated before
you make your booking.
Hotels are given a rating of between one and five stars; the more
stars, the higher the quality of room, service and facilities. Guest
accommodation, which includes bed and breakfast, guesthouses and
farmhouses, is rated in the same way, but with diamonds rather than
stars. The levels of quality and customer care get progressively
higher as the diamonds increase.
