Bircham Windmill

Located 8 miles south-east of Hunstanton, Bircham Windmill was built in 1846 and looks as it would have done over 100 years ago. Norfolk once had hundreds of windmills but today very few are left, and Bircham Mill is considered one of the best survivors and is the only windmill in the area to be in working order and open to the public, having undergone much restoration.

Visitors can climb the five floors of Bircham Windmill up to the fan stage and when possible, on windy days, they can see the sails and the milling machinery turning. The bakery adjoining the mill still has its original coal-fired oven and it continued to be a bakery up until the 1950s, 30 years after the mill had stopped.  Bread is still baked here, but today it is a visitor attraction with a shop, tearooms and holiday accommodation.

At Bircham Windmill visitors can book a bread baking experience, fun for the whole family, and you get to take your creation home.

Entry is free to the bakery, tea rooms and gallery and gift shop.
