Located on Theatre Street, Norwich Theatre Royal is an art-deco theatre that hosts a large range of touring productions. Theatrical performances in Norwich date right back to late medieval times where shows were performed on decorated stages wheeled into the city centre during festivals. Groups of actors would travel across the country in the late 17th century and regularly visited Norwich.
Norwich Theatre Royal seats 1300 people and hosts roughly 400 performances each year, making it the largest theatre in the East of England and visitors can enjoy many differing performances including musicals, opera, comedy, ballet, plays, children’s shows and an annual Christmas pantomime.
Norwich Theatre Royal has a full programme of events, activities, workshops and courses suitable for all age groups. From creative activities for young children to dance, drama, backstage tech & design, producing and directing for older children and young people. There are events for adults who want to learn new skills and make friends with like-minded people and take part in activities such as acting, singing, dancing and creative writing. The Theatre Royal also offers local schools and colleges an education programme delivering creative and cultural activities to a range of organisations in the region as well as a wide range of projects delivered in partnerships with local community groups.
The Theatre Royal has two bars, two function rooms and a restaurant, all fully accessible. They also have access performances such as British sign language interpreted performances and audio described performances are regularly shown.
