Norfolk Cider Producers

Summertime is the perfect season to grab a glass of the finest apple nectar and in Norfolk there are some great cider producers. Although not just a summer tipple, when the mercury starts to rise, a glass of chilled cider always hits the spot. Lazy picnics in the park, music festivals and barbeques with friends and family have us reaching for a cold cider during the warmer months. There are many Norfolk ciders available – different styles, flavour infusions, apple varieties and strengths, the question is which ones are the best? The answer is subjective, what one person may love, another may loathe. Really the only way to decide which is the best Norfolk cider is to try them all – let the research begin!

Many Norfolk farm shops, garden centres, independent retailers and high street stores stock Norfolk cider and you may also be able to buy it directly from several producers. Here are some of Norfolk’s cider producers and details of where their Norfolk cider can be purchased:

Whin Hill Norfolk Cider

Located in the north Norfolk town of Wells-next-the-Sea, Whin Hill Norfolk Cider is owned and run by Mark and Lisa and is a small farm-to-table company that is dedicated to producing quality cider, Perry and apple juice made from natural, local ingredients, with no added water, flavourings or artificial sweeteners. Their ciderworks and shop are situated on the main car park in the town and there is a pretty and secluded courtyard with seating, to sample the delicious goods on offer. They also sell unfiltered, unpasteurised cider vinegar.

Crone’s Cider

For over 25 years the Crone family have been making artisan cider, apple juice and cider vinegar using traditional methods and endeavour to minimise their carbon footprint at every opportunity. Crone’s cider is made from dessert apples, cookers, and cider apples that are organically grown and no chemicals or concentrate is used. The freshly pressed juice is fermented, and the resulting Cider and Perry is allowed to mature and clear naturally.

Crone’s Cider is currently available to buy through Beers of Europe online and their products are also stocked in Rainbow Wholefoods in Norwich’s city centre.

Harleston Cider Co

Harleston Cider Co are traditional cider makers based in the Waveney Valley along the Norfolk and Suffolk border. Established in 2010, when Ken their Master Cider Maker noticed apples going to waste in neighbours’ gardens, the business has gone from strength to strength. They use local produce for their craft ciders and source their apples from orchards in East Anglia and the Norfolk and Suffolk countryside. They also produce Fire Cider Vinegar and Ice Cider, which is made by taking freshly pressed apple juice and freezing it prior to fermentation. The freezing process concentrates natural sugars and flavours, resulting in a rich and syrupy ’Ice Cider’ that’s bursting with aromas of baked apple, honey, peach and apricot.

They regularly open their doors to visitors who are keen to discover how their craft cider, Ice Cider and Fire Cider Vinegar is made.
