The Duchess would find herself hungry around 4 o’clock in the afternoon, with the evening meal in her household not being served until 8 o’clock, leaving a long period of time between lunch and dinner, the Duchess requested that a tray of tea, bread and butter and cake be brought to her room during the late afternoon, and she would often invite friends over to join her.
