The Wash and surrounding areas along the stunning Norfolk coast are home to two species of seal, the Common Seal and Grey Seal. Since opening their Seal Hospital in 1989 they have helped rescue and rehabilitate hundreds of seals, most of which are young and vulnerable. Many have been separated from their mother and are lost and others have suffered from injuries or infections and are not strong enough to fight for themselves. Many seal pups that come into their care are just a few days old and have not learnt how to catch or eat fish and are still reliant on their mother’s milk. After considerable care and attention and when the seals reach their target weight they arrange their safe release back into the wild.
