Burston
Burston is a small village located 3 miles north east of Diss. It is famous for the Burston Strike School and its 2 teachers, Kitty and Tom Higdon. It was at the centre of Britain's longest ever strike between 1914 and 1939. The village schoolchildren went on strike when Mr and Mrs Higdon were sacked following a dispute with the school management committee. The children were taught in make shift schools by Mr and Mrs Higdon, starting off in a marquee on the village green and progressing to a purpose built school. Today the school is a museum.
