Countdown to Cromer Carnival 2019

The countdown to Cromer Carnival has begun! Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, Cromer Carnival is the town’s biggest annual event, attracting vast amounts of visitors and locals. Carnival Week runs from Saturday 17th August through to Friday 23rd August 2019, with Carnival Day on Wednesday 21st August 2019. There will be a whole host of events and activities running throughout August, in the run up to Carnival Week, before the main event – a jam-packed week of fun that the whole family will love.

Monday 5th August 2019 – Friday 9th August 2019

Children’s Week One - 11:00am onwards

Various free activities will be organised for children of all age groups such as painting, making, crabbing, sand building, pitch and putt, dancing and more.

Saturday 10th August 2019

Skate Park Competition - 12:00pm onwards

Scooter, skateboard and BMX competitions with prizes.

Sunday 11th August 2019

Cromer Soapbox Derby - 11:30am onwards

Course A149, Runton Road - Beach Road to Morrison’s Petrol Station with chicane and jump. Different classes and crash helmets must be worn!

The Legend of King Arthur - 2:00pm

Enjoy an outdoor family theatre production in the open air. Bring a picnic and be entertained by the classic tale of King Arthur and the knights of the round table. Advance tickets are available from www.northlodgepark.org.uk @£6.00

Monday 12th August 2019 - Friday 16th August 2019

Children’s Week Two - 11:00am onwards

More fun to be had including sandcastle and rocket building, crab shell painting, scavenger hunting, party hat making, Punch and Judy, duck racing and disco.

Tuesday 13th August 2019

Darts Competition - Team Finals - 7:30pm

Watch as the top three teams of each league go through to the finals at The White Horse Inn, Cromer.

Friday 16th August 2019

50th Anniversary Beer Festival - 7:00pm

Be a part of Cromer Carnival’s biggest beer festival and help celebrate 50 fantastic years of Cromer Carnival. Sample some of the very best Norfolk beers and ciders at The White Horse Inn, Cromer.

Tickets £12.50 and includes 4.5 pints and live music.

Fashion Show - 7:30pm

Tickets £5.00, children are free and those attending receive a complimentary glass of wine or soft drink. Tickets will be available from M&Co, Church Street, Cromer.

Saturday 17th August 2019

On the field:

Carnival Car Boot Sale, 7:00am - open to cars, 9:00am - open to the public.

Dog Agility - Organised by Norfolk Dog Training Club - 10:30am to 12:00pm – watch as they show off their dog training skills.

Cromer Carnival Bake Off in the Hospitality Tent. Cakes are to be made at home and brought to the carnival field by 12:00pm for judging at 12:30pm. There will be different categories and age groups.

Novelty Dog Show with Holt Dog Training Club - 1:30pm to 3:30pm

No pre-registration required. Entrance fee £1.00 and rosettes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places for various classes.

Carnival Marquee:

Craft Fair - 9:00am to 3:00pm – Everything crafty from earrings and hand-made cards to works of art, you are sure to find the perfect gift here.

Cromer Carnival Mini Beer and Cider Festival - 11:00am to 6:00pm - Sample over 20 real ales and ciders.

Gin City - 1:00pm - Enjoy live entertainment from local singers.

Around the town:

There will be an Open Mic in North Lodge Park, car treasure hunt starting at Amazona Zoo, live music, a Gin Evening and beer and cider festival.

Sunday 18th August 2019

On the field, in the marquee and arena:

10:00am to 4:30pm - custom and American car show

10:30am - motorbike and trike cavalcade and show

1:30pm - entertainment by local singers.

2:30pm - bonny baby competition

3:00pm - knobbly knees contest

3:15pm glamorous grandmother competition

3:30pm children’s carnival fancy dress parade

11:00am to 4:00pm - Cromer carnival big screen - watch film and photographs of the past 50 years

11:00am to 4:30pm - Cromer Carnival mini beer and cider festival

1:45pm to 3:30pm – listen to the talented local artist, Dale

7:30pm – wrestling in the Carnival Marquee, Runton Road. Family fun wrestling brought to you by the World Association of Wrestling.

Around the town:

There will be a horse show, a special Carnival church service, live music events, crowning of Miss Cromer 2019 on the pier forecourt at 12:30pm and a gymkhana.

Monday 19th August 2019

On the field and arenas:

Game and Country Fair and Floral Art Competition - including sheep shearing, chainsaw carving, Hillside Animal Sanctuary, Starting Handle Club, Fens Falconry, horse farrier demonstrations, bush craft demonstrations, ferrets, heavy horses, cooking demonstrations, beer and cider festival and a floral art competition. There will also be Game and Country related trade stands with events, exhibitions and shows taking place throughout the day.

Around the town:

Enjoy dance classes, lawn bowls, best dressed waiters and waitresses competition and race, carnival quiz evening, race night, vape night and brass band concert.

Tuesday 20th August 2019

On the field and arenas:

There will be an abundance of events taking place throughout the day including a 999 Show - meet the Police, Fire, Ambulance, Lifeboat and Coastguards (subject to service commitments). There will be a bike assault course, children’s entertainment, crazy golf, drumming workshop, games to play, meet and greet with Mr Tumble and friends, smoothie making using an exercise bike. Marvel at the BMX show, shire horse, martial arts performances, acrobatics, aerobatic display team, some clever Golden Retrievers, clowns and local dance groups. Enjoy crafts with plenty of sticking, cutting and gluing, a circus workshop and lots of clowning around, magic, prizes and balloons with Razz the Clown and Auntie Pearl.

Around the town:

Romford Drum and Trumpet Corp will be playing at various venues around Cromer and the Carnival Queen and attendants will be visiting Benjamin Court and Halsey House as well as Cromer Hospital. There will be bingo in the Carnival Marquee, Runton Road, with cash prizes and a raffle. Listen to the Carnival Band Concert in Cromer Parish Church at 8:00pm – tickets for sale on the door.

A darts competition - singles and doubles finals will take place at Cromer Social Club, The Croft at 7:45pm.

Wednesday 21st August 2019 - Carnival Day

Get off to a good start with Carnival Yoga on Cromer Pier with Wyn at 7:00am. No need to book but bring your own mat if you have one. It’s a free session, but donations are welcome.

On the field and arenas:

Cromer Carnival Committee welcomes everyone to celebrate 50 years of Cromer Carnival at Runton Road, Cromer. It’s sure to be a fantastic day that the whole family will enjoy. There will be a funfair, a variety of stalls, bar and many food and drink stalls. Don’t miss out on guaranteed fun and first-class entertainment!

Gates open at 9:30am - adults £7.00, senior citizens £5.00, children (aged 16 and under) £5.00, children under 3 are FREE. Family ticket is £20.00 (2 adults and 2 children).

Be entertained by the West Lancs Dog Display Team, Devil’s Horsemen Jousting Tournament, RAF Falcons Parachute Display Team (with a parachute drop at 11:45am), watch the arrival of Miss Cromer 2019 and the Royal Party, accompanied by the Woodforde’s Horse and Dray, observe the Ye Olde Redtail Falconry Display, Bolddog Lings FMX motorcycle display team and the Blades close-formation aerobatics with some of the worlds most experienced pilots.

The local Police, Fire, Ambulance, Lifeboat and Coastguard services will also be present, subject to service conditions.

The Carnival Parade will be led by the Romford Drum and Trumpet Corp, the Norwich Pipe Band and other local bands. There will also be other bands playing at various points along the Carnival Parade route.

At 5:15pm onwards the Carnival Parade will assemble on Carnival Field, Runton Road, Cromer. At 5:45pm judging of the floats and fancy dress will take place.

7:00pm sees the start of Cromer Grand Carnival Parade, through the town via Runton Road, Prince of Wales Road, Hamilton Road, Church Street, Mount Street, Louden Road, West Street, Beach Road and returning to the Runton Road car park.

Thursday 22nd August 2019

Around the town:

2:00pm - Cromer Carnival Lawn Bowls at Cromer Marrams Bowls Club on Runton Road. Spider competition that is open to everyone with refreshments available and a licensed bar.

2:00pm - Party on the Lawns - Evington Lawns, Runton Road, Cromer. A fun afternoon for the children with stalls and games. Featuring Razz the Clown and Auntie Pearl with their circus skills workshop and Dave Doughnut’s Punch and Judy.

3:00pm - Picnic on the lawns - for ticket holders only.

4:00pm - Crab dressing competition for adults only.

5:30pm registration for the Carnival fun run - Pier Forecourt, The Promenade. Race starts at the Pier Forecourt at 7:00pm.

6:30pm - Radio controlled helicopter and aircraft display - Carnival Arena, Runton Road.

7:00pm - Assembly of illuminated procession - The Meadow and Meadow Road.

7:00pm - Tug of war competition - Carnival Arena, Runton Road – watch as teams from Cromer and Sheringham battle it out.

7:30pm - Illuminated floats and umbrellas will assemble on Meadow Road

7:45pm - Display by Cromer Fire and Rescue Service - Carnival Arena, Runton Road.

8:15pm - Two teams from the RAF Regiment Reserves at RAF Marham come head to head in a military skills challenge to see who will be crowned champions.

8:15pm – Enjoy live music from Bloodshake Chorus in the Carnival Marquee, Runton Road.

8:30pm - Illuminated Procession - Led by the Romford Drum and Trumpet Corp, the parade will travel from Meadow Road to Runton Road, via Hamilton Road, Church Street, High Street and Runton Road. Lanterns and glow sticks will be on sale before the parade.

9:15pm (approximately) - Grand Fireworks Display - Carnival Field, Runton Road – one of Cromer Carnival’s highlights.

Friday 23rd August 2019

Around the town:

10:30am – take part in crab catching on Cromer Pier using hand lines and nets.

2:00pm – a walking treasure hunt that starts at The White Horse, West Street, Cromer, NR27 9DS. Follow the clues and questions along a route around the town, cliffs and paths of Cromer. Open to all ages, £2.50 entry fee per set of questions. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Prizes to be won.

8:00pm - Carnival Fancy Dress Dance - Carnival Marquee, Runton Road, Cromer. Dance to FireWire, as they play party rock covers including classic, punk, ska and current chart hits. Tickets £10.00 each 18+, fancy dress only. Tickets available from Merchants’ Place, Church Street, NR27 9ES on Saturday 3rd August 2019 at 9:00 on a first come, first served basis. No tickets available at the door.
